I have done this test and it emphasizes that I like to see and do things to learn. There may be children in my class who are like me an active learner or they are a reflective learner. A range of teaching strategies would be used such as group activity and individual activity. I like the term "Digital Natives or Digital Immigrants" (Prensky 2001). I am a digital immigrant. I was not born into it and am fairly new to ICT. The generation after me are the Digital Natives. My eight year old child is a native. Give her technology and she knows how to use it. I understand the concept of being an immigrant very well as I have been an immigrant twice in my life. It takes a lot of effort to understand the accent, vocabulary and how things work. How do I as a teacher (immigrant) use ICT meaningfully in helping students (mostly natives) learn? Do we leave the students to learn the KLAs on their own using technology that is available to them. Or do we give them a focus and direct their learning with the use of technology. Learning about Connectivism I now understand how the ICT course is structured. Students taking charge of their own learning and sharing but with guidance and developing their own learning techniques. This allows the students to be engaged and creative. They build on their learning. What does the 21st Century learner look like? Learning through social networking using technology. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OTIBDR4Dn2g |
